July 15th, 2010Great things

For me, one of the gazillion great things about the Internet is Online Schooling. It’s really a big leap to make our lives easier and our dreams closer to their realization. Imagine how convenient  studying, preparing for  exams and getting a degree/certificate have become  these days! It’s education at your fingertips and I just got to say “WOW!”

Then there’s online shopping! Wow. Wow. Wow. Hooray to one of my favorite things to do online. Shopping even  in my PJs! And  it’s absolutely one of the reasons why I’m so thankful for the Internet (Lol), not to mention chatting, trading, playing among other great services that come with it. Now how about you, what the great thing about being online?

July 12th, 2010Smokin’

And I thought our desktop could be restored before the month ends.  We tried to revive it to life but the worse happened. Just when we thought it’s already up and working, it suddenly emitted some smoke much to our surprise (but actually “surprise” is an understatement because when we saw the CPU smokin’, we were so alarmed).

Was it a sign to get a new computer (like what the husband suggested)? *sigh* sigh* If it was, then I gotta scout now and start reading some desktop computer reviews. *sigh* After more than a couple of years of service, maybe it’s really time to get a new one.

But for now, gotta thank this netbook for  getting me online when I need to.

June 3rd, 2010I Already Miss My PC

Yeah, yeah. And I miss my big monitor. Viewing photos such as these modern furniture I saw today is great with a really big monitor.

I know I mentioned it before that my PC is under repair — and it is still not repaired.  *sigh*sigh* I’ve been using my netbook for 10 years already! Okay, that’s an exaggeration but really, I miss my PC…with it’s big monitor and the valuable softwares installed in it.

One software that I miss using is Photoshop. It’s not the latest but I use it in 99.9% of my photos. I haven’t used it for 10 years na!  Miss it bigtime!  For the meantime, I’m using Picasa as it is lightweight and can easily be used with a netbook ( I haven’t installed Photoshop in the netbook because I’m afraid it would affect its performance).

May 20th, 2010Must Visit, Must Try

I have been researching online for some writing activities I can feed my son before the school opens in June and I’ve been real blessed to have found a wonderful site that offers downloadable educational materials for free. It’s the Kidzone.

It has tons of educational materials for children in pre-school to Grade V. The subjects ranges from Math, Geography, Science and many more. The kicker there is it’s all for free and you don’t need to create an account o be able to avail of the free materials. It’s all just there for everyone to download and print. (Thanks to the generous site owner/s!)

From Kidzone, I also landed on some great specialty sites, namely:

 All About Coloring, a great site that offers free coloring pages for kids;

DLTK’s Crafts for Kids, a site where you can have loads of fun crafts you can do with your children.

Then, if you want to incorporate Bible activities to Bible stories/lessons during Sunday School, check  DLTK’s Bible Activities

Then for parents, if you wish to go beyond the usual photo printing/presentation, check Smilebox for some exciting ideas on how to make your photos extra special.  Try creating  slide shows. Get hooked with scrapbooking. ( Digital scrapbooking has never been this easier -thanks Smilebox!) Do more with your photos and have fun.

April 19th, 2010Scratching My Head

Haaay, I still don’t know what’s wrong with my PC. It’s really such a hassle since the softwares that I always use for some online work are installed in that PC.

For the meantime, I’m using the netbook my husband gave me last December. But I can only use it mostly for surfing the Internet. Oh God help me, I really need my PC. And I need it alive and kicking!

April 13th, 2010Windows Defender

Something’s wrong with my PC. It keeps on crashing while doing some tasks. As of this writing,  I still don’t know what’s the matter with it but I’m still checking and troubleshooting the HW and some of its components.

Now, while  in the process of isolating my PC’s problem, I found a valuable software fro Microsoft. Maybe some of you are using this already, or heard about it. But in case you’re still looking for some protection against spyware, pop-ups and PC performance slowdown, here’s Windows Defender for you.

Windows Defender is software that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software by detecting and removing known spyware from your computer. Windows Defender features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it’s detected, minimizes interruptions, and helps you stay productive.

If you’re interested to download it, you can do so here.

March 30th, 2010Gee-Mee-L

Gmail. Yahoo. Hotmail. Rocketmail.  What free internet mail provider are you using?

Me, I used to have a Hotmail but I relinquished it already to my sister. I also had a Yahoo email but I rarely use this because it’s just not “me.” Then, I get so much spam mails there. *sigh*

So this leaves me with a Gmail inbox, which I use all the time. I am an avid Gmail-er because I think their email features totally rock. Now how about you? Wanna find out what I’m talking about? Sign up now and also read the Gmailblog.

March 17th, 2010Bye, Bye Imeem

Not too long ago, I have  posted a quick review on  how much I love Imeem. I was already impressed because I can easily download some songs on my playlist through MusicZilla.  But with MySpace absorbing Imeem, I found out I could no longer access the site. I actually tried accessing the site a couple of weeks ago and I felt bad that I could no longer see the imeem site nor login to my account (through MySpace).

I’ve read online though that there are users who received email advisory that they can restore their old Imeem playlist through MySpace. Good for them who were able to restore their playlist. As for me, I haven’t seen any notification of this nature. Also, the bigger prob is I could not login to MySpace using Imeem old username and password. I don’t have a Myspace account too (and don’t intend to have one). So even if there’s the merge service, I still cannot use it. Bye Imeem! :-(

Now moving on, are you familiar with colon cleansing? I have read about its benefits and there have been lots of available colon cleansers now. Still, I have to find a thorough article that presents their pros and cons. I’m off now to scour the internet for some information.

Happy weekend everyone!

February 15th, 2010Not a Single Penny

Photobucket This wireless keyboard is worth $99.95 in the IOGEAR website. But we got this all for F-R-E-E. Wooohooo! That’s right, I didn’t shell a single penny for this device, thanks to my sister AJ.

She received it as a company give-away and she gave it to us. Bless her generous heart. *smile*

Now what do I think about the device. It’s cool.  I  am still trying to get used to the trackball-button click combination but I am loving the fact that I can be on my bed and still type something (y’know, make a post or write email) on the PC. Oh well, having a netbook or PDA will let you work on bed but having this one is different. Think FREEDOM.  As my son said, it’s like having a remote control of your monitor. Really a perfect solution to get some things done even if you’re away from the table or away from the screen. If you are someone who loves to play games in the PC, and who got a big monitor, then I know you would love to have this.

That said, before I go and search for acne solutions, let me finish this post by saying that having this multimedia wireless keyboard, which comes with a USB pair,  makes me really want for an iMac. BADLY. I know it would be the perfect tandem.

February 10th, 2010On AVG Now

I’ve switched to AVG Anti-virus. Like a good anti aging product, I feel better with it. I feel more secured and more protected  and I’m sure my PC feels it too.

So secured am I that everyime a notification about a certain threat/virus  pops up, I actually smile.

My husband previously installed avast on my desktop but since I’ve used AVG on my netbook and liked its performance more than the former,  I decided to make the not-too-big switch. :-)
