“Mom, I love to color!” My son said to me as I was preparing for work, much to my surprise. I never really imagined to hear those sweet words. I actually didn’t imagine to hear this from my son because some months ago, he would plainly refuse to work on a coloring book. As in “strongly” refused.
But thanks to a Kumon book for coloring for changing all that. This book at the left side was his first coloring book by Kumon which he instantly love browsing (at first). When I encouraged him to color it, there was no refusal heard from him.
Like other Kumon books, My Book of Coloring AT THE ZOO is jampacked with fun, fun illustrations which are age-appropriate. The book also help enhance you kid’s basic pencil control skills. The activity on every page is designed in a way that kids will thoroughly enjoy them so that they will have fun while learning as well as to keep parents from reaching for their best wrinkle serum due to their child’s refusal to engage in a coloring activity.
Lol.
Oh well, isn’t learning supposed to be fun and not frustrating? As a parent, and one that patronizes Kumon books, I can attest that this thought is at the core of every Kumon books’ design. These books are truly a treasure
Many months ago, I bought an origami book for myself. Actually, I’ve been planning to learn simple origami crafts that I can share to my three-year-old son. As luck would have it, though I had plenty of time reading about identity theft protection, I still haven’t found time to do the crafts from the book up to now. Tsk, tsk. What a slacker!
But okay, the saving grace is..
I have found an interesting workbook, about a month or so after purchasing that origami book, that is very helpful in introducing origami crafts to kids. Yes, siree! And I just couldn’t NOT buy it!
Know why? As part of the Kumon First Steps Workbooks for kids ages 2 and up, Let’s Fold! is specifically designed not only to help develop fine motor skills but for kids to have fun while folding papers and doing the basic origami activities. Like the previous workbook that I first bought for my son, the More Let’s Sticker and Paste!, every page of this book is a visual treat for kids. I’m really happy to have found this book . Similarly, my son and I always have a great time doing the activity pages, which we do regularly (yeah, I always find time for this *smiles*).
The (More) Let’s Sticker And Paste! workbook is actually a memorable book for me (and for my son, I guess). First, because it was the first workbook that introduced me to the Kumon method of teaching. Hence, (secondly) it is the first Kumon Workbook that my son finished.
When I saw it in a local bookstore, I knew right there and then, my son has got to have one. But because the copy I had in my hand looked not too new to me, I had requested for another copy from the sales clerk. But I found out that it was the only copy available then. Talk about blessings! So despite its not too new state, I count myself blessed to have found it among the litters in the bookstore =D. (It’s the kind of feeling you get when you find the right slimming pills after searching and searching for what’s best for you.) And then anyway, it’s the content that matters most.
And for the content, I must say that when I first saw what’s inside, I know in my heart my son would love it. And he did! My son thoroughly enjoyed every single page of this workbook. And I too enjoyed seeing my son enjoying the stickers and pasting.
I’d have loved it too if I were given this workbook in my younger years. Every page is certainly a visual treat even to my adult eyes and so how much more to kids! And because Kumon employs a step-by-step method of teaching, kids would find it easy to finish an activity page. Trust me, they’d even ask to do more pages in one seating.

Books are fun. Books are great. Books are helpfuI.
How can I live without them?
My latest craze - if you can call it that- is a series of self-help books for parents called the Last Straw Strategies by Michelle Kennedy. I honestly couldn’t be more thankful for finding these great books that offer advices, tips and tricks on how to deal with babies, toddler and growing children. Each book in the series tackles on one specific problem are i.e sleeping, crying, jealousy, etc… The books are really a great source of practical advices and tips in handling kids coming from parents and grandparents.
The book I’m currently reading now is the one for manners and it’s really informative and practical. I treasure this one a lot because at the moment, I am teaching my kid about good manners to be observed at home and in public places.

Rainy days are here in my country and in times like this, there is no better weapon against common rainy day illnesses than a good measure of prevention.
To do that, here are a couple of steps that, in my humble opinion, are essential to maintaining good health:
1) Observing good hygiene at all times. Wash hands always.
2) Strengthen the immune system by getting enough rest and proper nutrition.
Moreover, since flu and colds are some of the common illnesses, it’s also good to arm ourselves with practical information to prevent these illnesses. A great book I recently bought that I find very useful is Dr Neil Schachter’s book: A Good Doctors Guide to Colds and Flu. It is readable and contains helpful and practical tips to help us prevent and manage respiratory illnesses such as common colds and flu.
